Hello all! Thanks for the kinds words, my bachelorette weekend was fabulous. That is a post for another day :)

Yes to the dress, no to the show

A few months ago, I found THE dress and my bridesmaid dresses.

On a lovely afternoon in Atlanta, my mom, sister and grandmother came with me to Bridals by Lori to pick out my dress. My sister had gotten hers there a couple years ago, and their service, collection of dresses, and personal attention is outstanding. A three-floor facility, the bridal salon is on the top complete with a runway. I found the most beautiful gown I've ever seen and cannot wait to wear it on my wedding day. And they did ask me if I was saying yes to the dress! No details until after the wedding, but I am over the moon with my gorgeous dress, which is by Rivini. (As well as my veil, earrings and white faux-fur stole that we also purchased there!)

The following morning, we went back to pick out the bridesmaid dresses. They have such a wonderful collection and since my extremely pregnant sister (at the time) couldn't try them on, I also got to try on the bridesmaid dresses. Fun, fun!

Here's what I went with:

The color I chose is Tea Rose - a pretty shade of pink.

Much to my surprise, I got a call a month ago from a casting director from Say Yes to the Dress asking if my bridesmaids and I would like to be on the show. It was to be for the Bridesmaids version of the show and I would come in with my girls when they got their dresses altered and they would also come to film at my wedding. While flattered, in the end I turned it down because I wasn't sure I'd want to be interviewed on my wedding day. I hated to miss out on the opportunity, but you only get one wedding day!

While I did say no to the show, I am thrilled to have said yes to the dress!

A new year

Hello all! I can't believe how long it's been since I posted. December was a fun and busy month for me! I was able to visit my family in Atlanta for two weeks and get lots of wedding planning done, which was wonderful. I owe you many wedding update posts! The countdown has begun and the wedding is quickly approaching.

Wedding Wednesday: THE shoes

When it came to selecting my wedding shoes, I knew that I wanted something elegant and beautiful. I either wanted to go with white/ivory or blush pink so as not to take away from my dress. I had spied a pair of gorgeous white Badgley Mischka Randalls about a year ago that I fell in love with, but turns out they were much too tall. Instead, I found the beautiful Badgley Mischka Lacie, which will look absolutely stunning with my wedding dress. The blush pink color pairs perfectly with my pink/peach wedding, as well as the bridesmaid dresses, and of course a bit of sparkle is always welcome in my book.

I can't wait to dance the night away in my perfectly pink heels!

Fall finds

Fall may be in the air, but it is still quite hot in Orlando! I've had to get creative with my wardrobe since it's not chilly enough to break out the tights and sweaters, but I still want to feel like it's fall.

Here are two pieces I'm loving in my closet this fall:

Lilly's Cissy Skirt in Break a Leg

Since I can still go tights- and leggings-less, I've been able to get a lot of wear out of this skirt when paired with a cardigan or more fall-like top.

Lilly's Main Line Straight Leg Jeans (Pink Tomato)

The orangey-red color is perfect for fall and I can wear a short-sleeve top to keep from getting too hot. The fit is great on these and true to size!

Anyone else experiencing a rather hot fall? I must admit though, that I am enjoying the warmer temps this week :)

Hi all! Long time no see :)

This bride-to-be has been busy, busy! I've been making my lists and checking them twice.

In the past month I've moved to my new home. The sweet fiance is letting me live at his house and he is staying at his parent's house up until the wedding. I'm happy to say I'm all settled in now.

I also was able to visit my parents for a week and wow was it nice to work with my mom on plans in person instead of over the phone. I even got to meet my sweet baby nephew for the first time! My sister and her husband had their first baby in September.

I got my engagement pictures back this past week and will be sure to share a few favorites. Next up - our tasting, cake tasting and meetings with our florist and wedding coordinator next week. Very exciting!

It's fun to see how everything is coming together. I have many fun details to share with you soon!

Halloween treat

I love this time of year! So many yummy goodies. This Halloween treat would be perfect packaged in a cute cellophane bag tied with ribbon to hand out to coworkers, friends or neighbors.

Ingredients: (Recipe from Pinterest)
Mini pretzels (square or round)
Hershey's Hugs
Candy corn

Directions:
Heat oven to 350. Line baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and line up pretzels, without touching. Place a Hug on each. Bake for 3-5 minutes. After taking baking sheet out of the oven, press a candy corn on each.

Enjoy!

Wedding Wednesday

Ever since we got engaged at the end of July, we've been planning away. Since the Mr. and I have been dating for four years, we knew we wouldn't want a long engagement. And let's be honest, I had done quite a lot of research leading up to our engagement ;) I was more than ready!

In fact, we took a tour of our venue only two days after we'd been engaged. This was the only venue I had in mind and it was perfect. It was the only place we looked. We decided to go with it!

After talking with the venue about possible dates, one month was totally booked and another too close to my birthday, so we settled on a date in which all the stars were aligning.

Ever since, the planning has been underway and I feel like the luckiest girl getting to marry the man of my dreams in a beautiful location.

Being a Georgia peach, I knew I wanted to get married in Georgia. However, I was not set on Atlanta and wanted a location that was close by for my Orlando friends as well.

Coastal Georgia is the gorgeous spot and towards the end of February is the big day. It is a beautiful time of year for the area and couldn't be more perfect for a romantic, elegant wedding.

I am so thankful for the support of my parents who have been there for me every step of the way and are working so hard to help me create a wonderful day for all involved. I am also so thankful for my amazing fiance!

We are headed to the venue in November to meet with our florist and do our tasting and cake tasting. Can't wait! And, it's now time to start focusing on the little details and design/decor.

Celebrate

Mr. Fiance turned 30 back in August and thought I'd share the surprise celebration I planned. (Better late to share than never, right!?)

He wanted to get away for a few days so we headed down to the Fairmont Turnberry Isle, which is in between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. It was fabulous! A great golf course, relaxing spa, awesome pool with lazy river, delicious restaurants — we didn't even need to leave the hotel. We had gotten engaged the week prior so we had lots to celebrate and enjoyed being able to just relax at the pool.

I got a bit crafty and here's how it turned out:

I jazzed up the napkins by using a stamp and sprinkled on a little glitter just after stamping to add a little pizazz.

I made a few printables — a sign I put in a frame and a quiz on the year he was born. And yes, that is the Lilly dark 'n stormy pattern you see! Don't tell the Mr. ;)

I also made a banner and a few other fun party items.

I made chocolate-covered oreo pops and stuck them into a styrofoam block that was edged by scrapbook cardstock I cut out and glued on. I also had a bucket of TGV's favorite gummy candy.

On the other side, I had a box of cookies in the shape of 30. I also created a signature drink called the "Dirty 30." Click on the picture to see the recipe. It is really called a "Man Cosmo" and uses Red Stag, but — it was not good at all. Whoops!

Here is the banner I made! I used different scrapbook papers and cardstock and cut them all out and strung them together.

Fun times! Cheers to great celebrations.

Hair gold

Over the summer, a new hair stylist recommended a product to tame my tresses and let me tell you — it is fabulous! My formerly always tangled hair is now smooth and shiny. It's Kerastase Elixir Ultime and is a bit pricey for a styling product at $50, but it's worth every penny and lasts a very long time.

After towel drying my hair, I use one pump and finger comb it through the ends of my hair and work my way about 3/4 up (I avoid my roots). It has a nice warm vanilla aroma and adds shine. It keeps my fine hair defrizzed and even cuts down a bit on the drying time. It is said to restore strength while protecting and providing intense conditioning as well. I would definitely recommend it for those who have tangles or are looking for shine.

Hi friends! I have been a busy bee planning away. I thought I'd share how I asked my bridesmaids to be in my wedding. They all live out of state so I wanted to send them something special in the mail.

I am having a mini destination wedding and everyone will have to travel so I thought it would be cute to do a travel theme and send them each a luggage tag. So, I found cute luggage tags and then I found some equally adorable Lilly Pulitzer letterpressed cards that say "a little birdie told me." I wrote each a sweet note asking if they would travel on this journey with me. To make the envelope extra cute I used a stamp of a bride and groom. Voila!

They all said yes! So thrilled to have everyone take part in this journey with me :)

Thank you all again for the congratulations! It's been a whirlwind of excitement and we jumped right in to wedding planning. Such fun!

I have an easy-to-make treat recipe for you today. Whenever I am limited on time, I remember this yummy recipe and can bake it in no time to bring with me to an event.

Chocolate peanut butter cups

Ingredients:
Peanut butter cookie dough (can make your own or buy it from the store)
Reese's miniature peanut butter cups

Directions:
Heat oven to 350. Spray a mini muffin tin and line dough to form the shape of the cup only going up the sides about half-way. Insert a Reese's into the center of each. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

That's it! So easy and yummy.

The proposal

Hi everyone and welcome to the first edition of Wedding Wednesday. So excited to join the club :)

My apologies for the delay in posting, it's been a bit crazy around here. Wedding planning is already rockin' and rolling!

Now, on to to the proposal story. We dated for just short of four years, so you can imagine my excitement that it was finally happening!!

TGV and I were scheduled to have dinner with his family at their club on the night it happened. On our way there they called to say they would be running late, but for us to go on. We decided to walk around a bit and headed down to the dock . . . (they were hiding to take pictures)

After enjoying the beautiful scenery we started to walk back up and that's when TGV got down and one knee and very sweetly proposed. I, of course, said yes!

We then walked up over by the golf course to see his family and they had a red rose for me and champagne and T.'s sport coat. Right about now I was feeling underdressed (side ponytail?!?) and wishing I had a party dress on. But, at least I was wearing Lilly :)

We sipped champagne and took a few pictures while I was floating on cloud nine. Meanwhile a helicopter had landed on the golf course and I didn't think anything of it. I remember saying, 'oh look a Tour player must be coming in.'

Well, that helicopter was for us! It was my first helicopter ride and I was very excited. With my red rose and all, I felt like I was on the Bachelor.

Here I am still giddy with excitement and flying over the city!

And here's that handsome fiance of mine!

My next surprise was when we landed at the Waldorf for dinner. They sure treated us well and we enjoyed a very yummy dinner, champagne and special desserts. And now we're looking forward to happily ever after!

The next day we left for vacation with my parents and I was so excited I got to celebrate with them. More champagne, hooray!

I love a good craft project and this one is extremely simple, yet glamorous at the same time. It's an easy way to add a little extra sparkle to any party or soiree.

I have these cocktail napkins in mind for the bf's upcoming birthday celebration. Paired with a bottle of champagne tied with a shiny silver ribbon and tag, it also makes a cute hostess gift.

I found this idea and the following pictures on The Demoiselle and it was designed by Courtney of Pizzazzerie.

I am back from a fun trip home to visit my family and have a yummy recipe to share with you - Mississippi Mud Brownies. I brought them to my work picnic today and it was a big hit.

Mississippi Mud Brownies
{From Southern Living}

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped pecans (used walnuts)
1 (4-oz.) unsweetened chocolate baking bar, chopped
3/4 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups miniature marshmallows
chocolate frosting (used homemade recipe)

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake pecans in a single layer in a shallow pan 6 to 8 minutes or until lightly toasted.
2. Microwave chocolate and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl at HIGH 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until melted and smooth, stirring at 30-second intervals. Whisk in sugar and eggs until well blended. Stir in flour. Spread batter into a greased 13- x 9-inch pan.
3. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Sprinkle warm brownies with toasted pecans and marshmallows.
4. Prepare chocolate frosting. Pour over pecans and marshmallows; spread to edges. Let cool 1 hour on a wire rack. Cut into squares.

Fruit salsa

In preparation for 4th of July weekend, I thought I'd pass along a favorite recipe of mine - fruit salsa with cinnamon tortilla chips. Simple to make and quite tasty!

Ingredients:
1 cup strawberries, finely chopped
1 cup apple, finely chopped
2 kiwis, finely chopped
1 navel orange, finely chopped
1 can unsweetened crushed pineapple, drained
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon fruit preserves

Directions:
After chopping up all the fruit, thoroughly mix all ingredients together. Drain any excess liquid from the bowl. Cover and chill.

*I recommend only using half of the orange, a whole is too much.

Cinnamon tortilla chips ingredients:
10 flour tortillas
1/4 cup butter, melted
Cinnamon sugar

Directions:
Cut tortillas into wedges, and arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Brush with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake at 350, 8-10 minutes.

Back in the sunshine state

I'm home from my visit to Traverse City and getting back into the swing of things. We had a nice time at the bf's family friend's wedding, visited a few wineries, caught up with the bf's childhood friends, spent an afternoon at Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club and played with the puppy in the picture above! The weather was quite chilly and rainy, but we were lucky to have two gorgeous, sunny days.

For anyone in the Michigan area, you must visit The Boathouse restaurant in Traverse City on the peninsula. Great food and even better desserts - champagne lavender creme brulee topped with cotton candy sprinkled with pop rocks. Yum, indeed!

I also have an announcement: In the weeks to come, The Pink Tutu will be getting a new name. I have been wanting to make this change for quite some time, and I'm finally taking the leap. This means I must get an updated look as well. Can anyone recommend a good blog designer? Any and all advice is welcome as well :)

I recently finished another great book by one of my favorite authors, Jill Mansell. All of her books are lighthearted, easy reads, and make a great companion for travel on a plane or for a day at the pool or beach. Each and every book is perfectly British and the main characters are all fun, quirky and charming. You can't go wrong with names like Millie, Poppy or Cleo!

Staying at Daisy's

Plot: "Daisy MacLean runs the country house hotel owned by her flamboyant father, Hector. When she hears who's about to get married there, she isn't worried at all - her friend Tara absolutely promises there won't be any trouble between her and ex-boyfriend Dominic, whom she hasn't seen for years. Steaz teas. It's an organic green tea that comes in a variety of flavors and you can get it in unsweetened, sweetened with stevia, or lightly sweetened varieties. I find it at Whole Foods.

These are my favorite flavors:

Hint water. Their motto is Drink Water. Not Sugar. Hint water is infused with a variety of natural flavors and is unsweetened and no calories. It tastes great if you need water, but want a little flavor.

Hint Fizz just recently came out and is a sparkling version of their water. I love the bubbles! I find Hint at the Fresh Market and have seen it in other places as well.

The strawberry kiwi flavor in the regular and fizzy versions is a favorite of mine.

Happy June to all! With summer on the way, I was in need of a new bathing suit. After seeing JGIWC's adorable new suit I hopped by Target to check out the collection. I must say, they had some great options!

My favorite style is the ruffled variety below. Too cute and I love the buttons and ruffle trim. I went with the white and I'm looking forward to hitting the pool or beach.

A Florida girl can never have too many bathing suits. That's for sure! :)

I must say I am loving the warm weather. Trips to the pool, dinner on the patio, boating . . . summer is upon us! I know my toes are happy to be back in their McKims and Jacks. And that means pedicures are a must! While I love a trip to the salon, in between visits I touch up my own with my mani/pedi kit. I keep a stash of good polish on hand for whatever color strikes my fancy.

My mani/pedi kit (not pictured) is from Bath and Body Works and is great. It has all the tools I need and keeps them organized. Here is the latest version from Bath and Body Works. I'm loving the orange and pink! And best of all, it's on sale for $8 right now.

Pineapple Bliss

Memorial Day weekend is quickly approaching, which means the start of cook-out season. I have a few parties to attend in the next couple weeks and came across a light, yummy and low-fat dessert to contribute to the goods. It's a cinch to make and would look adorable with a slice of citrus gummy candy or brightly colored sprinkles on top, and cute, summery liners.

Pineapple Bliss Cupcakes
{Recipe by skinnytaste.com}

Ingredients:
1 box yellow cake mix
20 oz. can crushed pineapple in juice (don't drain)

Directions: Combine both ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Pour into lined cupcake tins and bake according to directions on cake mix box. Set aside to cool.

Pineapple Fluff Cream Cheese Frosting
{Recipe by skinnytaste.com}

Ingredients:
8 oz. Philadelphia 1/3 less fat cream cheese
20 oz. can crushed pineapple in juice (drain well and squeeze)
3/4 cup marshmallow fluff

Directions: Combine cream cheese, marshmallow fluff and pineapple in a bowl and mix until combined well. Spread on cooled cupcakes and refrigerate until ready to eat.

The month of May has certainly been a fun one with all my travel adventures! I have many pictures and tales to share soon after travel weekend number three, which begins Friday for another friend's wedding.

I do find that I like to travel in style, while also staying organized. Today's suggestion is a good makeup case. I find that I need one that isn't too small so that I can fit my regular day-to-day makeup, but can also allow for any extra special occasion makeup (while also fitting in my suitcase or tote bag!). I also like a sturdy bag and if it has a wipeable liner, that's also a big plus. And it, of course, must be cute and coordinating!

Right now I am lusting after this Vineyard Vines train case. I have not seen it in person so it may be too large to fit in a suitcase, but it would be great for storing my makeup.

If the train case is too big to travel with, the adorable pina colada bag looks to be the perfect size. Just the thing for a tropical vacation!

The gingham bag is adorable as well. Besides using it for travel, it's the perfect size to throw in your work bag or to store other items in your purse.

Fitting for a royal wedding watch party.

Buttermilk Scones

(Recipe from Nigella Lawson)

3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

2 teaspoons superfine sugar

4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) unsalted butter

2 tablespoons shortening

1 1/4 cups buttermilk

1 egg, beaten, for an egg-wash (optional)

1 2-inch biscuit cutter, preferably fluted

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Put the flour into a bowl with the baking soda, cream of tartar, and sugar.

Chop the butter and the shortening into pieces and drop them into the flour.

Rub it into the flour and then pour in the buttermilk, working everything together to form a dough.

Lightly flour your work surface. Pat the dough down into a round-edged oblong about 1I inches thick, then cut out 2-inch scones with a biscuit cutter.

Arrange the scones fairly close together on your lined baking sheet, and brush with beaten egg (to give golden tops). Bake for 12 minutes, by which time the scones will be dry on the bottom and have a relatively light feel. Remove them to a wire rack to cool, and serve with clotted or whipped cream and jam.

I recently checked out Waking Up in Dixie by Haywood Smith from my local library. It was a fun, easy read that would be great to take to the beach or curl up with at the pool. I do love a good southern book!

Synopsis: "When Elizabeth Mooney escaped the shame of her family to marry the crown prince of her small town, Howell Whittington, she never dreamed that thirty years later, she'd end up trapped in a loveless marriage to the cruel banker who's foreclosing on all her friends. Then Howe has a stroke sitting up in church, and when he wakes up, he's at the mercy of all his appetites and emotions. Transformed, Howe wants to be a real husband, which scares proper, repressed Elizabeth to death, and setting out to right past wrongs, he blackmails the town's baddies into doing the right thing. The ensuing hilarious rollercoaster ride wakes up not only Elizabeth and their marriage, but the whole town and its hidebound institutions."

It was quite funny! Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

I love spring! It is absolutely my most favorite time of year. Busy, busy, of course, but there's just something about sunshine, pretty flowers, sundresses and happy colors that keep a spring in my step.

Here's what I've been up to lately:

Junior League's Blue Note Ball - fabulous time and my dress was a hit!
My parents visited - great time at Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival!
Practice, practice - practice makes perfect in many dress rehearsals for Easter show.
Junior League - leading my provisionals in their class project ~ a prom dress drive/red carpet event for girls in one of our former programs.
Getting ready for two upcoming weddings of fabulous friends.

And tonight is opening night! I'm dancing in an original production at my church called ONE. The directors wrote the entire thing, including the music. It's about the final days of Jesus' life leading up to the resurrection. I am blessed to be part of such a talented cast and crew. Can't wait to perform tonight and the next several nights. Wish me luck!

Good morning! Does anyone else get the Sunday night blues . . . in anticipation of tackling another Monday morning? I sure do, but make sure I'm organized and ready to take on the week ahead. Here are a few tips that help me feel prepared.

Sunday night:
1. Pick out and lay out my outfit ahead of time (including shoes and accessories).
2. Pack my breakfast/lunch so I can grab it and go in the morning.
3. Pack my gym bag/dance bag/Junior League bag - whichever I may need for the following night.
4. Take time to relax - watch a movie, have a bubble bath or read a book.
5. Early to bed if possible to start off the week well rested.

Monday morning:
1. Upon arriving at work, review agenda for the week first thing.
2. Get coffee or tea. Caffeine is a must :) (Delicious coffee recipe below)
3. Answer emails and review deadlines for the week.

All of these tips help me to ease back into the workweek so I am ready to tackle assignments, tasks, activities and a busy schedule. Organization and preparation is the key for me.

Monday morning coffee -

Iced raspberry chocolate cappucino
(recipe: perfectcoffees.com)
1/2 oz. chocolate syrup
1/2 oz. raspberry syrup
1/2 cup coffee, chilled
1 cup milk
*Combine ingredients and stir well. Pour over ice and enjoy!

This weekend my sister's best friend and her little sister are coming to stay with me. They both are running in the Disney Princess Half Marathon on Sunday. Big snaps to them!

I thought I'd make their stay a happy one with a basket full of snacks, treats and magazines. And of course a little welcome sign on the chalkboard :)

P.S. I made the chalkboard and it was very simple. I bought the frame at Michaels as well as the chalkboard spray. Lay down some newspapers or paper outside and take out the glass part of the frame, lay it on the papers and spray, following the directions on the can. Let it dry 24 hours, put it back in the frame and voila! My mom the cute table runner for me. I love the greek key fabric! Click for a close up view.

Happy Thursday! This week I am participating in the lovely Trish's Pink and Green Thursday fun.

I have a few pretties to share with you! Last week for work I attended the PGA Show and got to visit with a few of my favorite vendors. My assignment was to write a story on the latest equipment (how about pink golf clubs boss? no?? j/k), but I of course made time to scope out all the prettiest, preppiest, pink and green treasures.

My favorite company year after year is Bloom Designs. It is a fabulous stationery company with the most fun, precious, adorable designs that are golf, tennis, yoga and fashion oriented. The owner Elizabeth is as sweet as can be and really has an eye for design. She was so kind to share a few products with me and I must say my desk at work is looking great! (We've featured Bloom in one of our magazines before and I'm crossing my fingers to get them in again.) Fun fun!

Hello friends!

I apologize for not posting the last few weeks. Things have been très, très busy getting back into the swing of things after the holidays. I am finally catching up and looking forward to posting regularly again!

A quick recap:

- I spent two glorious weeks home with my family in ATL over Christmas

- Saw several movies, relaxed, shopped, went to fabulous restaurants, read four books

- The bf and his brother/sister-in-law met me in ATL for NYE

- We saw Cirque du Soleil and had dinner at Craft

- Upon returning home to Orlando, the bf and I went to Miami for the Orange Bowl

- Stanford vs. Virginia Tech. Bf is a Stanford alum and his Cardinal won!! Such fun.

January so far:

- Work deadlines/obligations

- Dance practices have begun for our spring show called "ONE"

- Junior League: we are getting a new provisional class on Saturday (retreat day) and we have been preparing/scheduling/organizing like whoa

- And of course a little fun mixed in

It seems that 2011 caught me by surprise!

I feel I am ready to take it on now.

With my best foot (or sparkle ballet flat) foward, here I GO!

Over Thanksgiving, my family and I checked out the gingerbread house competition at The Grove Park Inn. What fun that was! Here are a few for you to see.

Christmas fun

Orlando is a very fun place to be for the holidays. There are all sorts of Christmas events going on and so much to do. I love checking it all out and getting in the Christmas spirit.

For the bf's work party this year we went to Epcot. We had a wonderful dinner in a private room at the Living Seas and got to watch all the cute fish, stingrays and even a giant sea turtle swim about while we mingled and ate.

Next up was the Candlelight Processional, also at Epcot. It was beautiful! The choir sang all types of traditional Christmas carols and songs and were highlighted by the fabulous lights and setting.

All holding candles, there was such a nice glow set all across the stage. The Candlelight Processional also features a well-known Narrator and there are different narrators each weekend. Ours did a great job. He is on the show Psych, but I can't remember his name :)

The following weekend sent us to SeaWorld where we boarded The Polar Express. One of the rides is transformed into The Polar Express and it is just adorable. The sleeping polar bear we saw after the ride might have been even cuter!

We also saw several Christmas-themed shows while at SeaWorld and they were all very well done. We saw the Shamu Christmas Miracles show, a tree lighting show and even an ice skating show. I must commend SeaWorld on a fabulous job on all the Christmas shows!

The Singing Christmas Trees 2010 was quite a success! I enjoyed every single minute of it and am so blessed to be part of such a talented cast and crew, spreading my joy through dance. Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.

This was the opening number and we were thrilled to be the ones who "reveal" the trees. We did a series of turns and we stop, posed towards the trees and then the curtain falls down and there they are. So amazing!!

Hi everyone! It's hard to believe today is already December 1st. Time to get merry!

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving and thought I'd share a few pics. I flew home to Atlanta and my family and I spent our Thanksgiving in Asheville. We stayed at the Grove Park Inn and it was just gorgeous! The mountain views were stunning and it was one happening place. All of the guests hung out in the lobby playing games, listening to the band or watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade or football on the big screen. It was also all decked out for the holidays and the gingerbread house competition was on display (will share in another post). Oh what fun!

And now it's time to move on to Christmas!

The show I dance in each year, The Singing Christmas Trees, is set to open tomorrow night for friends and family and the official opening night is Friday. I am SO excited!! My family is flying in tomorrow and will be going to see it. We'll also be partaking in some Christmas fun this weekend. Can't wait!

P.S. A very Happy Birthday to my grandmother today! I am so glad she is here with us celebrating Thanksgiving in N.C. We also send our love up to heaven for my grandpa (11/25/09).

I am so excited to head to Atlanta this morning to be with my family for Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to spending time with loved ones, good food, a little shopping, movies and most of all a mini-trip we are taking to Asheville, N.C.

Rockettes!!

It is no secret that I am beyond obsessed with the Radio City Rockettes. They are my very favorite dancers in the whole world! They visited the Martha show recently looking as cute as ever and performed one of their dances. They even got to make a craft with Martha. Love them!

I can't wait to see them in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade!!!

Busy times

Life has been tres, tres busy! Lots going on, but I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. It's hard to believe it's almost here. I apologize for the infrequent posting/commenting. Thanks for bearing with me!

Here's what I've been up to:

1. Dance rehearsals. Our Christmas performances are only a few weeks away. We are logging tons of practice hours a week to prepare. Yesterday I was there from 1:30 to 7:45!! So excited my parents, sister and grandmother will be flying in to see it!

2. Junior League. I am the assistant chair for provisionals and we are beginning to wrap up the fall provisional period, so lots to do and lots to accomplish/attend.

3. Work. Deadline for the magazine this week-very busy completing it by myself (long story). Will be so happy when I get it to the production stage and its out of my hands.

4. I live in a cute little town that I love, but the commute is starting to get to me. Too much driving lately.

5. Attended a wedding this weekend. It was a picnic theme, very cute. We all got our own picnic basket and there was an old-fashione ice cream man/station set up. Fun times.

6. Absolutely cannot wait to fly home for Thanksgiving one week from today!! It will be a much-needed week off and we will be traveling to a festive spot to celebrate the holiday.

7. Last but not least, a very Happy Birthday to my dad today!

Happy Veterans Day!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the men and women who have served and fought for this great country of ours. Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed. Thank you for being our heroes!

A very special thank you goes out to my grandpa (Papa) who is in heaven. He was a pilot in the Navy. Fun fact - he was stationed in Hawaii with my grandmother for several years and my mom was even born there (moved back to the States when she was 3 or 4). My grandparents have very fond memories of their time in Honolulu. Thank you Papa and I miss you very much!!!

Pumpkin season

I heart all things pumpkin and recently baked up a batch of pumpkin cookies. Yum yum!

Here's the recipe:

Pumpkin cookies

Ingredients:

2 cups flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. salt

1 cup crisco

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 cup pumpkin

Mix sugar, crisco, egg and pumpkin until creamy. In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients. Fold dry ingredients into wet. Whip until smooth. Drop onto cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes.

Icing:

3 Tbsp. butter

4 Tbsp. milk

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup powdered sugar (I recommend more.)

Boil butter, milk and brown sugar for two minutes. Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla. When cool, add powdered sugar.

Halloween fun

I hope everyone had a great Halloween weekend! I sure did. It's time to move onto November now, but I wanted to share a few pics.

Below is a house in my neighborhood. They totally transformed the front of their house into a pirate ship. How fun would it have been to trick-or-treat there!?! I wonder what they'll do for Christmas :)

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving and Christmas are soon to arrive. Not sure I'm quite ready, although, I've been hearing Christmas music since the beginning of September when we started dance rehearsals for our Christmas performance. Ha. Tis the season!

Halloween candy fun

Halloween is only a few days away! I'm sure everyone has been loading up on candy. But what to do when your trick-or-treaters come home with an overload of sweets or you end up with bags of leftover treats? Do not fret, Real Simple comes to the rescue. They have several recipes using leftover candy. I will definitely be trying a few of these!

York Miniature Peppermint Patties Brownies

Directions

Prepare a 19-ounce box of brownie mix. Spread half the batter in an oiled 8-inch square pan. Top with 16 York Miniatures Peppermint Patties (13.6 grams each), leaving even borders of batter.
Spread the remaining batter on top; bake according to directions. Cool; cut into 16 squares.

Twix Cheesecake Pie

Directions

With an electric mixer, beat 2 8-ounce bars cream cheese (at room temperature) with ½ cup sugar and 2 large eggs. Mix in 16 chopped Twix Fun Size Bars (16 grams each; 2 cups total); pour into an 8-inch chocolate cookie piecrust.
Bake at 325º F until set, 40 to 45 minutes; cool. Sprinkle with 6 chopped Twix bars; chill until firm.

Kit Kat-filled Angel Food Cake

Directions

Beat ¾ cup heavy cream with 1 tablespoon sugar until stiff; fold in 5 chopped Kit Kat Snack Size bars (14 grams each; about ¾ cup total).
Halve a 9-ounce angel food cake horizontally. Hollow out each layer slightly. Fill bottom with the cream mixture; replace top. Dust with cocoa powder. Slice; serve with chocolate sauce.

Dulce de Leche Snickers Terrine

Directions

Line an 8-by-4 ½-inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang. Cut 14 Snickers Fun Size Bars in thirds (17 grams each; about 1 ½ cups total); arrange on the bottom of the pan. Top with 2 pints softened dulce de leche ice cream.
Press gently to settle the ice cream; freeze until firm, 6 hours. Invert onto a plate and slice.

Candy Corn and Pretzel Bark

{Hopsy and Grove Gal both made this and it looks delish!}

Directions

Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment, leaving an overhang. Spread 8 ounces melted white chocolate in the prepared pan and sprinkle with 1 cup miniature pretzels, ½ cup candy corn, and ⅓ cup dried cranberries.
Chill until firm. Remove from the pan and break into pieces.

Frozen Reese's Banana Pops

Directions

Halve 2 bananas crosswise. Insert a wooden stick into each piece; freeze the bananas and 4 Snack Size Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (21 grams each) for 2 hours.
Chop the frozen candy. Coat the frozen bananas in 6 ounces melted chocolate; sprinkle with the candy. Freeze on a parchment-lined plate until firm.

Glitter pumpkins

After this post, I was in need of glitter. And with Halloween on the way, there was no better time to glam up some pumpkins—Martha Stewart style.

After reading recommendations, I decided to use fake pumpkins so I can reuse them. I got mine at Michaels (on sale!). I also got the Martha Stewart glittering glue that has the brush applicator, which definitely came in handy. As for glitter, I used smoky quartz for the smaller pumpkin and fire opal for the bigger pumpkin.

Tips: I coated small sections of the pumpkin with glue at a time and then sprinkled on the glitter. This is a much easier way than coating the whole pumpkin in glue and then trying to add glitter. If you don't have glue that comes with a brush applicator, just use a paint brush. Once I sprinkled the glitter on, I spread it with my fingers and patted it down. The glue can cause it to clump so make sure the glue is spread thin.

This project is very easy to do and in no time at all you'll have a sparkly pumpkin!

(And perhaps even a sparkly home if you're generous with the glitter like me ;) )

Purple nails!

I've been on a big purple kick lately and just had to get my nails painted with a fallish purple.

It was OPI, but I can't remember the name. It's not as dark in person. It's more of a brighter, royal purple. Cheers to the little things that keep us smiling!
