Fruit salsa

In preparation for 4th of July weekend, I thought I'd pass along a favorite recipe of mine - fruit salsa with cinnamon tortilla chips. Simple to make and quite tasty!

{Photo credit: Taste of home}
Ingredients:
1 cup strawberries, finely chopped
1 cup apple, finely chopped
2 kiwis, finely chopped
1 navel orange, finely chopped
1 can unsweetened crushed pineapple, drained
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon fruit preserves

Directions:
After chopping up all the fruit, thoroughly mix all ingredients together. Drain any excess liquid from the bowl. Cover and chill.

*I recommend only using half of the orange, a whole is too much.

Cinnamon tortilla chips ingredients:
10 flour tortillas
1/4 cup butter, melted
Cinnamon sugar

Directions:
Cut tortillas into wedges, and arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Brush with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake at 350, 8-10 minutes.

Enjoy!

Back in the sunshine state

I'm home from my visit to Traverse City and getting back into the swing of things. We had a nice time at the bf's family friend's wedding, visited a few wineries, caught up with the bf's childhood friends, spent an afternoon at Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club and played with the puppy in the picture above! The weather was quite chilly and rainy, but we were lucky to have two gorgeous, sunny days.

For anyone in the Michigan area, you must visit The Boathouse restaurant in Traverse City on the peninsula. Great food and even better desserts - champagne lavender creme brulee topped with cotton candy sprinkled with pop rocks. Yum, indeed!

I also have an announcement: In the weeks to come, The Pink Tutu will be getting a new name. I have been wanting to make this change for quite some time, and I'm finally taking the leap. This means I must get an updated look as well. Can anyone recommend a good blog designer? Any and all advice is welcome as well :)

Happy Wednesday! So looking forward to the long weekend . . .

Easy, breezy read

I recently finished another great book by one of my favorite authors, Jill Mansell. All of her books are lighthearted, easy reads, and make a great companion for travel on a plane or for a day at the pool or beach. Each and every book is perfectly British and the main characters are all fun, quirky and charming. You can't go wrong with names like Millie, Poppy or Cleo!

Staying at Daisy's

Plot: "Daisy MacLean runs the country house hotel owned by her flamboyant father, Hector. When she hears who's about to get married there, she isn't worried at all - her friend Tara absolutely promises there won't be any trouble between her and ex-boyfriend Dominic, whom she hasn't seen for years. But Dominic has other ideas... Meanwhile, Hector's getting up to all sorts with...well, that's the village's best kept secret. And then Barney turns up, with a little something belonging to the husband Daisy's been doing her best to forget. That's the thing about hotels, you never know who you're going to meet. Or whether they're going to stay..."

Check it out and soon it'll have you unintentionally taking on a British persona too :)

Punch of pineapple

I absolutely adore all the Kate Spade pineapple goods!  Despite being a perfect summer fruit, pineapple also is the sign of hospitality. Any one of these items would certainly provide a punch of pineapple to a wardrobe.

Take your pick, grab a fruity drink and head to a tropical locale!

Keepin' cool

The start to summer has been quite a hot one! As much as I love sunshine, I try to stay hydrated and cool so I won't melt.

Here are my top two zero calorie drinks for summer ~

Steaz teas. It's an organic green tea that comes in a variety of flavors and you can get it in unsweetened, sweetened with stevia, or lightly sweetened varieties. I find it at Whole Foods.

These are my favorite flavors:

Hint water. Their motto is Drink Water. Not Sugar. Hint water is infused with a variety of natural flavors and is unsweetened and no calories. It tastes great if you need water, but want a little flavor.

Hint Fizz just recently came out and is a sparkling version of their water. I love the bubbles! I find Hint at the Fresh Market and have seen it in other places as well.

The strawberry kiwi flavor in the regular and fizzy versions is a favorite of mine.

Drink up and stay cool!

Perfect pairing

I've had a Lilly gift card burning a hole in my pocket for quite some time, and finally decided to use it. I'm headed up to Michigan with the bf to visit his family and attend a wedding this weekend, so here's hoping this outfit will spend some time out on the beautiful water of Lake Michigan  :)

Wiley tube top

Jarvey skort

I like to mix my brights and the piping on the skirt pairs perfectly with the coral/orange hint of the top. White Jack Rogers plus a navy beaded necklace and I'm good to go.

Are we there yet!?

Sunny side up

{Credit: pinterest}

Happy Monday to all! In my opinion, the weekend goes by way too fast. Mine was filled with sunshine, fun outings, meals on the patio and plenty of relaxing. I hope everyone else had a sunny weekend as well!

Although today is Monday, I chose to wake up sunny side up and start my day on the bright side. Cheers to a great week ahead! And if rain is in your forecast, I'll be sure to send some Florida sunshine your way :)

Inspiring images

I love quotes, always have. And when depicted in beautiful ways - even better! I had seen these beautiful paintings floating around on Pinterest and discovered they can be purchased at The Wheatfield on Etsy. Owner Katie Daisy sells prints of her original paintings in a variety of sizes and card versions. One of her prints would be just perfect in a personal office or even a bathroom!

I must say, I love them all!

Dive in

Happy June to all!  With summer on the way, I was in need of a new bathing suit. After seeing JGIWC's adorable new suit I hopped by Target to check out the collection. I must say, they had some great options!

My favorite style is the ruffled variety below. Too cute and I love the buttons and ruffle trim. I went with the white and I'm looking forward to hitting the pool or beach.

A Florida girl can never have too many bathing suits. That's for sure! :)
