Just Dance!

Happy Friday! Tomorrow is a very exciting day. It's the very first National Dance Day!! Created by Nigel Lythgoe of So You Think You Can Dance and in part with the Dizzy Feet Foundation, it is a day to encourage everyone to get up and move. The grassroots movement is working to promote health and self esteem through the art form of dance and create awareness for dance. It's even being recognized by Congress. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton will be introducing a National Dance Day resolution at a press conference to promote dance education and physical fitness across the United States.

In honor of National Dance Day, the dance troupe I am a part of will be performing. Our church, First Baptist of Orlando, has invited us to perform at the Saturday night and Sunday morning services. We'll be doing a hip hop and lyrical dance. If you want to watch live, go to www.firstorlando.com at 10:45 on Sunday morning and click Watch Live to tune in.

Dance has always had a very special place in my heart. I started dancing at the age of 3 and never stopped. I even minored in dance in college. I am so happy, lucky and blessed to still have the opportunity to dance and perform today!

Here are a few pics to share of me and the dance troupe:

Fun Facts and Favorite Dances:
- When I was in middle school my teacher had us tap to Workin' 9 to 5 and we had to stuff our bras.
- The dance troupe and I have an obsession with dancing to Michael Buble songs. We love him!
- When I was little we did a jazz dance to Hair and wore crazy wigs.
- Another favorite dance was tapping to Barbie Girl and we were all different Barbies. I was GAP Barbie.
- I despise Cats the musical, but loved the acrobatics dance we did. There was a trampoline behind a brick wall on stage that I got to do a toe touch over. And leopard unitards-meoww!
- I choreographed Annie and Beauty and the Beast when I was in high school.
- I am beyond obsessed with the Radio City Rockettes.
- I LOVE leaps and jumps, but pirouettes not so much.
- I choreographed for Greek Week Dance most years in college—Sig Kap's #1!
- I am called the "jazzerina" in the troupe because I love jazz dance.
- Growing up I took ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and acrobatics.

Put on your dancing shoes!!!
And break out the tutus, of course.
You'll be glad you did :)

Great reads

Every once in a while, I love a good British book. And Jill Mansell certainly does not disappoint! I've read two of her books so far and must set out to read the rest as well. An interesting thing about Mansell—she writes her books by hand before sending them on to her typist. A romantic at heart, indeed!

Witty, charming, cute and lighthearted all describe the romantic comedies Mansell writes. It's easy to relate to the characters and I found myself rooting for them in all the twists and turns and humorous situations these heroines endure. Perfect for a day at the beach or a rainy morning curled up under the covers, I give Jill Mansell two thumbs up.

The most recent one I read is Millie's Fling

"When Millie Brady saves Orla Hart's life she doesn't realise how drastically it will change her own – not least because the boyfriend who was asking her to move in with him at the time stormed off in a huff. Actually, Millie's relieved. She's happy to enjoy a man-free summer in Cornwall. But Orla has other ideas. She's determined that Millie should meet the man of her dreams. Trouble is, Millie's taste in men doesn't tally with Orla's. The one who really interests her is Hugh Emerson, and he's the man with whom Orla's adamant she mustn't get involved..."

I've also read Perfect Timing

"Poppy Dunbar is out on her hen night when she meets Tom Kennedy. With his dark eyes and quirky smile, he could lure any girl off the straight and narrow, but what really draws Poppy to him is the feeling that she’s known him all her life. She can’t go through with the meeting they arrange – but she can’t go through with the wedding either. Suddenly notorious as ‘The Girl Who Jilted Rob Macbride’, Poppy moves to London. Soon she’s installed in the bohemian household of Caspar French, a ravishingly good-looking young artist with a reputation for breaking hearts. But even in her colourful new home, Poppy can’t get Tom off her mind. Until she’s tracked him down, she’ll never know if their meeting was destiny – or if the future holds something entirely different for her…"

Happy reading!

Pushing through

Hello, friends. It has not been the best Wednesday for me. I am up to my earrings with all sorts of not-so-fun things that need to be taken care of and scheduled through the next month. Such is life. We all know how that goes. On the cheery side, I had a wonderful vacation with my family at Sandestin and miss the daily walks on the beach and relaxing under the sun. Onwards and upwards, I guess!

When life turns blue, make pink lemonade!

Headed to rehearsal now to dance it all out :)

Tasty Treat

Rainbow Sherbet Cake

9-inch Angel food cake
1 pint Orange sherbet, softened
1 pint Lime sherbet, softened
1 pint Raspberry sherbet, softened
Cool Whip, softened

Directions:
Slice the angel food cake crosswise to make four layers.
Place the bottom layer on a serving plate and spread orange sherbet evenly on top.
Repeat alternating cake and sherbet layers. Finish with final layer of cake on top.

A nice, cool treat for a hot summer day.

Just dance

Lately, I've been so busy I just have to twirl right through! So sorry for the long absence from posting, but I do believe this is the busiest summer of my life. However, I love being busy so it's alright with me :)

A little bit of what I've been up to:

- Work: Summer is our busiest time.

- Dance: National Dance Day is July 31 and the Dance Troupe and I are hard at work preparing a lyrical and also a hip hop number to perform. Can't wait!

- Junior League: Lots of meetings and planning sessions to make way for the new provisional class we'll soon be taking under our wings.

- Party planning: For a shower the bf and I are throwing.

- Traveling: I've been zipping around here and there for weddings, and engagement parties. (Had a wonderful time when my mom visited me, btw!) Next up is a relaxing annual beach vacation with my family later this week. Can't wait.

Dancing through life and enjoying every moment!
Well . . . at least taking it one day at a time :)

Will pop back in when I can.
Have a GREAT week friends!

July is flying by

Just popping in to say hello! I had a wonderful time up north for the 4th. The weather was great and good times were had by all. One of my favorite parts of the weekend was seeing the Blue Angels. I have seen them before, but am always impressed. They sure can fly!

I've been quite busy with work, Junior League and dance since I've been back. And last night my mom flew in for a visit! We're headed to a resort tomorrow (mini-vaca in my own town :) ) and plan on having a weekend full of fun—pool time, shopping, great meals and lots of laughter.

Have a great one and I'll be back next week!
