Finding the JOY

Definition of JOY: gladness; delight; the emotion of great happiness.

My mom has always told me, "Don't let anyone rob you of your joy." This is the motto I try to live by. When I am old, I want to look back on my life and feel an overwhelming surge of joy at the life I've lived. I want to feel joy along the way, as well.

2009 was a difficult year for me. A lot of things happened that were outside my control, and I did not like it, not one bit. My joy was being taken. My mom is my biggest cheerleader though, and encouraged me and cheered me on and always reminded me to look past tough times and look for the joy.

I don't know what 2010 holds, but some difficulties from 2009 are still trying to linger. I'm trying to focus on one day at a time and reveling in the joy that day brings, rather than worrying about the next day, or the next. No one will rob me of my joy! :)

"Pick the day. Enjoy it - to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come. The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present, and I don't want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future." — Audrey Hepburn

Don't get me wrong, I am blessed beyond measure with the greatest family, friends and life a girl could ask for. But sometimes we all need to be reminded to look around and marvel at the good that surrounds us.

"I do it for the joy it brings, for I'm a joyful girl." — Ani DiFranco

Always a deal . . .

I've learned that there's always a deal out there!

I recently decided I needed a pair of J. Crew matchstick jeans and set out to the store to find them. After discovering they were still full price at $98, I knew I could get a better deal. I headed over to the outlet and was happy to find them at $59 plus 30 percent off. I'm happy I waited! They really are a great fit, so head out to your outlet and try a pair on as well.

Anyone else found any good deals out there?

Have a happy weekend!

Lovin' the monkeys!

Happy Wednesday! Getting half-way through the week always makes me smile. :)
As promised, here are a few samples of the cards I've been working on. Card-making is a lot of fun! I'm in search of some more fun prints and will keep you updated on my progress.

The monkeys are my favorite because the print is very Lilly-ish and reminds me of my study abroad travels in Barbados. I got to hold baby monkeys!

Let me know if anyone wants tips on how to make these. It's very simple and fun to do.
Enjoy your afternoon!

Crafty cards

I've been bitten by the craft bug! While looking around for something fun to create, I decided on note cards. Here are two varieties I want to try.

Edge-punched cards by Martha

It looks simple enough. Pick out some card stock, pretty paper, and edge punches and create away. The trick is in the measuring to line it up just right. I would add some kind of embellishment to fancy it up a bit.

Monogrammed stationery by Martha

For this one, you'll need card stock, initial stamps and embossing ink and powder. Stamp the monogram using the embossing ink and while it's still wet, apply the embossing powder and pour off the excess. Set the ink with a heating tool, such as a hairdryer. As it melts, it becomes shiny and sparkly.

I need to get to Michael's!
I am thinking that combining both ideas would be perfect :)

P.S. No snow! Flurries were rumored, but I didn't see any.

Winter Wonderland . . .

. . . in Florida!?!

(Hasn't happened yet, but a palm tree covered in snow - I can only imagine!)

Orlando Weather
Saturday: High - 38 Low - 24
Sunday: High - 47 Low - 25
*It's supposed to snow!! :)

Maybe it's a good thing I'm headed to Bonita Springs again. (Bf is there for work.)
Bonita Springs Weather
Saturday: High - 46 Low - 32
Sunday: High - 54 Low - 31
*At least it's a little warmer there, right? :)

(Mine is cream colored.)
Described as "a downy band of soft yarns and a whorl of petals to keep you comfy when it's gusty." Good thing I got this for Christmas! It is being put to good use to keep my ears warm.

It's actually quite fun to be able to wear my heavy coats, scarves and gloves that usually sit in my closet. Who would have thought I'd be using an ice scraper on my car in Florida? Luckily, I still have mine from my Elon days.

I'm crossing my fingers for snow!
Stay warm and have a wonderful weekend!!

The Pink Tutu returns!

Hello friends! It has been so so long since I've last posted. I've missed you all! Thanks for letting me taking a break over Christmas . . . I sure did need it. I'm back now and ready to jump into 2010 with all the adventures, laughter, fun, love and joy it brings.

Here are some highlights from the past few weeks:

My sister's wedding!
It was a beautiful southern wedding. Loved it!
(more pics to come . . .)

A fabulous date with the bf to see Cavalia.
Cavalia is a Cirque du Soleil-type show, but with horses (people too). It was fabulous! It was filled with acrobatics and even the horses would "dance". I was amazed by what the horses could do - choreographed dance moves, running out to their exact spots on stage, tricks and all.
After Cavalia we went to Craft - Atlanta and had a delicious dinner of braised beef short ribs, sunchokes, squash and pancetta risotto and pear crisp with toasted almond ice cream. Delish!

Meet Lilly!
Lilly, as I've affectionately named her, was my Christmas surprise. Since my sister was on her honeymoon and it was just me and my parents, I didn't know what to expect. Imagine my surprise when I run downstairs and find a beautiful pink Townie just waiting for me! I was so excited and had the biggest smile on my face. I live in a little town just outside Orlando that has streets lined with shops and restaurants and I am just a short walk from town, but now I can bike - and in style I might add. I have a basket that hooks on as well. I'm in love!! I also got many other wonderful gifts and surprises that I am so thankful for.

As for the rest of my break, I enjoyed lots of shopping, good meals, fun times with family and friends, movies, and time with my pets - Rory the black lab and kitties Molly and Griffin. I was able to be at home in GA for two weeks, which is the longest amount of time consecutively spent there in quite a few years. I loved every moment!

I spent the past weekend in Bonita Springs with the bf ringing in the New Year and I am now ready for the challenges and adventures ahead. Cheers to 2010!
