Fun project

Hello everyone and happy Monday! I got all moved into my new place this past weekend thanks to some wonderful helpers. I was so appreciative for all the help from my boyfriend, his brother and dad who helped me do the heavy lifting and furniture moving and to my parents who helped me get set up. I am lucky to have them! I am working on getting organized and gathering decorating ideas now.

I found a fun, no-sew monogram project and think it will be a perfect way to add a little personalization to my bed. No monogram machine? Well, thanks to Martha, that's no problem.

Items needed:
Pillow cover and insert
cording
fabric glue
disappearing ink pen
marker and paper (to map out design)

Directions:
Draw your design onto paper with a dark marker. To make sure it's uniform, they recommend using graph paper or you could print out a design and trace it. Place the paper with your design underneath the pillow cover and trace it onto the fabric using a disappearing ink pen (pencil would probably work too). Go over the traced lines with fabric glue and arrange the cording over the glue. Dab fabric glue onto the cut ends of the cording to prevent fraying.

Voila! A personalized pillow.

Once I find time, I will make this and be sure to share a pic :)

I won!

Lucky me because I won The Preppy Princess giveaway! It made my day when I found out I was the winner of a preppy plate of my choosing. I went with Boatman Geller's Madison Damask, pictured below, but with teal. This giveaway happened with perfect timing because I was able to customize it to a new decor scheme I am planning in my new place. What fun! The Preppy Princess is so very sweet and generous to do this and she always makes me smile. Be sure to pop by her store and check out all the goodies. I have my eye on quite a few things! Thank you again Princess for such a wonderful surprise. I will be sure to post a pic once it arrives.

Fall is in the air

Happy first day of fall! Grab a pumpkin spice latte and celebrate the changing of the seasons.

I expect a busy fall ahead. Just this week my department at work and I are moving to a new area downstairs, I'm moving to a new apartment Friday, I have a big work deadline Thursday plus extra work for another department, Junior League meeting tonight plus extra work to help out another committee, and dance practice tonight plus getting a number choreographed by the weekend. All of this and getting packed to move and set up in my new place will be quite the challenge, but I'm already diving in. Better make my pumpkin spice latte a double!
Cheers to living a full life :)

Spotted: J. Crew fashionista

If you have not yet seen the new show Glee on Fox, Emma Pillsbury, played by Jayma Mays, is Ms. J. Crew to a "T". As the school guidance counselor, she is impeccably dressed. If one were to take a peek in her closet they'd find a cardigan to pair with every outfit, pencil skirts, ruffle neck tops, skinny patent belts, tweed, plaid and houndstooth patterns, matching heels and pumps, and coordinating necklaces to accent her ensemble. Tres classy!

I find Emma's character adorable. Although a bit naive, she has a sweet heart and tries to guide and advise the independent-minded students of McKinley High while also trying to impress and be noticed by her crush Will - the director of the Glee Club. Emma has a major schoolgirl crush on Will and is often seen cheering him on and giving her utmost support of his mission to transform New Directions.

Here is an example of an outfit that would be found in Emma's closet.

Tune in on Wednesday nights to catch what J. Crew piece Emma will be dolling up next!

Case of the missing bow

Dear Ann Taylor Loft,
All of the models on your web site are wearing a certain gold bow necklace in many, many, many of the photos. Some are wearing it long, some are doubling it up - to each her own. I really like this necklace. So, where is it? I cannot find it on your site. Has it gone missing? It is adorable and will dress up any outfit and make it cuter. Please let me know where this missing necklace has run off to.
Hoping you'll add it to the site any day now,
The Pink Tutu

Can anyone solve the case of the missing bow necklace? Shown here.

Fall treat

Ginger Chocolate-Chip Bars (Real Simple magazine)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for the pan
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips

Preparation

Heat oven to 350° F. Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking pan and line it with two crisscrossed pieces of parchment paper, leaving an overhang on all sides. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.

With an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugars until fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat to combine. Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just incorporated. Mix in the chocolate chips.

Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 40 to 50 minutes. Cool completely in the pan, then cut into 32 bars.

One of these goodies + a pumpkin spice latte = a perfect pair!

Yum. Make a batch and welcome fall.

(It may still be over 80 degrees here in Florida, but a girl can pretend fall is in the air!)

Happy long weekend!

I am so happy the weekend is here. The Britney concert was fabulous!! I had the best time. The potluck at work went well also. I ended up making a jalapeno corn dip that was really yummy. I was happy everyone ate it up!

Yay for a long weekend! I'm hoping to have a beach day, catch a movie, relax . . . and of course pack for my move. Anyone else have fun plans?

I got this in an email and thought it was so cute:

Clue. Who did it? It was Mrs. Peacock, in the conservatory with a candlestick.
Thanks to The Pink Pelican for making me smile!

Have a FABULOUS Labor Day weekend!!!!

P.S. Happy wedding weekend to my grandbig!!!!!!
You are going to be such a beautiful bride, love ya!
