And I'm off . . .

I am headed to the windy city for work. Fun fact: This will be my fourth time going to Chicago and I have yet to see the city/downtown. I won't this time either! Maybe next time :)

I am going to a press conference and will be interviewing this amazing lady, Beth Daniel. She is the captain of the U.S. Solheim Cup team. (The Solheim Cup is the championship between two teams - U.S. vs. European ladies.) Fun fact: She is a southern girl! She was born in Charleston and went to Furman University in SC as well. She has won 33 tournaments including a major championship. I'm excited to meet her!

Wish me luck!

Busy little bee!

Hello friends. Hope you're all having a wonderful Wednesday! It has been one busy week with work, JL and dance. Tomorrow I'm heading to Chicago for work for the rest of the week. Unfortunately I won't get to see any of the city, but I will get to do some fun interviews.

Tonight I am off to a dance practice with these lovely girls:

The will hopefully be having one of these yummy teas at Starbucks with T:

And I of course could use a nice relaxing bubble bath before my travels tomorrow:

Enjoy your evening, we're halfway through the week!

I'm going to the one in my area and it's held at The Pink Chalet, a fabulous store full of fun things. I can't wait!

I'm back!

I had a wonderful time in Sarasota this past weekend! A weekend escape to the beach was just what I needed. T's parents were so nice to take us on a quick getaway. Saturday was spent at the beach and pool and walking around town. Sunday we went to the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art (As in the Ringling Brothers Circus). What a neat place! We toured the art museum, looked at fun circus artifacts in the circus museum and went on a tour of the Ringling's house. Much to my surprise, there were monogrammed blankets, towels and silver everywhere because Mable loved monograms. Keep in mind this was done in the 1920's. Also, there was a pink bathroom with pink tile and everything pink. How fun! Overall, it was such a nice relaxing weekend and a great way to start off this upcoming week on a good note. Here is a picture of the house:

Saturday morning (before heading to Sarasota) was my dance performance. It went so well! I loved performing for those women and making them smile. They clapped and cheered for us and I felt so honored to be able to dance for them so they could have a little time to escape the problems they deal with every day. It was a great experience and I hope they learned a lot from the banquet and messages from our pastor and others. There is always hope.

*This is another busy week for me with work, dance and JL. I apologize for not being able to comment as much. Just know that I am reading and taking in all of what you lovely bloggers have to say. Hope your week gets off to a great start!

The weekend awaits!

Happy Friday to all! I am so excited for the weekend ahead. Tomorrow morning I have a dance performance. My dance troupe is performing "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast and "Broken" be Lifehouse. We are dancing at the Queen's Banquet at our church that is an event for underprivileged women in the area. Donations have been given of business suits, purses and other items that they will use to help them get a job. As the title suggests, they will be treated like queens at the banquet. We are opening the event with "Be our Guest", which is perfect to start off the luncheon. Part way through we do "Broken" and I think that is one they will really be able to connect with. I am looking forward to dancing for them and making them smile.
After the dance performance I am heading to Sarasota with T, his brother, brother's girlfriend and his parents. It will be so nice to get away for the weekend and enjoy the beach. Hopefully it will get warmer out! Lucky for me, my Rue La La items came just in time. I will definitely be wearing the two items below at some point during the weekend.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!! Do something fun and take time to relax and recharge.

Sperry - Top-sider Saybrook sandal

Bee's Knees

It has been another busy day, but I wanted to pass along this cocktail recipe I came across before I head to a Junior League social. Have a great night!

Bee's Knees (www.rachaelraymag.com)
Makes 1
2 teaspoons honey
1 teaspoon warm water
Ice cubes
2 ounces gin
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
*In a cocktail shaker, stir together the warm water and honey until the honey dissolves. Add ice cubes, gin and lemon juice and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Enjoy!
This would be perfect for a garden party, wedding shower or spring event.

Living for fun

Hello all! It sounds like everyone had a wonderful Valentine's weekend. My boyfriend surprised me with a fabulous four course dinner at a restaurant called K Restaurant and Wine Bar that I've been wanting to check out for a while and tickets to see A Chorus Line. We had a great time and I am so thankful to have him in my life. T is such a sweetheart and so good to me. As I mentioned earlier, our first date was on Valentine's Day two years ago. We had met six months before that and hung out as friends, and then things just progressed from there. He is my best friend and I'm so glad we found each other. It was fun celebrating our third Valentine's Day together.
I had today off from work for President's Day so I of course thought it was the perfect time to see Confessions of a Shopaholic. I loved it!! It was so fun and cute and made for the perfect afternoon treat. The book series is my favorite and it has been many many years since I read the series, but I really liked the movie and thought it was too cute. I hope all of you are having a wonderful day as well!

Heart Day

I am so thankful to have such loving and wonderful parents. They are my biggest fans and have supported and encouraged me my whole life. They were also so sweet to always include my sister and I in the Valentine's plans. My mom is also the best shopper I know. She picks out fabulous outfits for me and I can always count on her to be my personal shopper. For holidays, she always puts together fantastic packages and sends them to me. It always brightens my day! Here is a glimpse at the fun Valentine's Day things she put together for me. Thank you mom and dad!!

Pretty Valentine surprises!

A very yummy cobbler mix for me to bake.

Grey Banana Republic dress and fun J. Crew headband and shirts.

A pretty pink dress to wear tomorrow night for Valentine's Day and a cute red top to wear during the day tomorrow.

Wow I am one lucky girl!!!

I am getting so excited for Valentine's Day! This will be T and I's third Valentine's together. Our very first date was on Valentine's Day two years ago :) More on that and him tomorrow. He always plans a surprise for me, so I will find out what we're doing tomorrow.
Happy Friday!

Sam the Koala

The wildfires in Australia have been devastating. As of this morning, 181 have lost their lives, more than 500 people have been injured, 1,000 homes have been destroyed and much of the countryside has been burned. The numbers are expected to keep rising. I feel for those who have been affected. What also hurts my heart is the number of animals that have been killed and hurt. I am glad to know the wildlife shelters are doing their part and helping to save what animals they can. Below is Sam the koala. She was rescued by a firefighter after he found her trying to move on scorched paws. He offered her a drink of water and she gladly accepted. This picture is so moving to me, with the firefighter holding her hand. Let's keep all those being affected in our thoughts and prayers. You can read about Sam's story here. Sam is recovering well and even has a koala boyfriend named Bob who is also recovering.

Sam and the firefighter, David Tree, who rescued her.

Bob and Sam. Bob is very protective of Sam.

All Things Cheerful

Winter blues have you down? I was in need of a little pick-me-up and dreaming about bright colors and spring put a smile back on my face. These fun items from Swoozie's would be perfect for a fete of some sort. Maybe even to celebrate the arrival of warm weather! They are sure to add a little sunshine to any gathering.

Party Tub $29.95

May Your Every Glass Always Be Half Full $19.95

Cloth Napkin $4.95

Bright Stripe Wine Glass $14.95

Cloth Coasters (set of 4) $11.95

*In other news, my first JL meeting was fabulous! We spent the majority of the time discussing a personality/leadership profile test we filled out to learn what type we are. We used the DiSC version that stands for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientious. I ended up being an I for Influence and it was fun to learn about each group's traits. Tonight I am off to dance practice and looking forward to leaps and turns and having fun!

A nice surprise

My sweet boyfriend surprised me this weekend with Kate Spade's book, Occasions. I absolutely love it and it made me so happy to know that he was thinking of me, saw this and knew it would be perfect for me. It's the little things in life that really mean the most! He is so thoughtful and always knows just how to make me smile. Thank you T!
If you haven't had a chance to look through this book, do so because it is full of all kinds of tidbits and fun ideas about entertaining. Everything from flowers to decorations, table settings and party themes, hostess tips and party shopping lists are all inside the cutely-illustrated book. I can't wait to read about all the festive ideas and plan a party of my own.

"Every occasion calls out for something extra, whether it's flowers you set on the table, foods to honor a special gathering, or the selection of music. For both hostess and guest, consideration of those around you is among the important qualities for any enjoyable occasion. A smile and sense of humor are also essential, and before the canapes and night lighting, a good hostess is ultimately defined by a welcoming and gracious demeanor. In Occasions, Kate Spade invites you into her world of easy, festive entertaining, where the emphasis is not on having 'the perfect meal', but 'the perfect time'."
- excerpt from Occasions, by Kate Spade
(Kate Spade also has books on Style and Manners as well.)

*I am off to my first JL provisional meeting tonight. I can't wait!

Lovely little evening

I hope everyone has had a great Monday. I just had a wonderful phone date with my best friend (miss you Em!!) and I'm now relaxing and watching the Bachelor. Ahh the simple things in life. I also picked up these two lovely items at the Rue La La sale today. Yay, I love a good deal! Did anyone else snatch anything good? Enjoy the rest of your evening!

A yummy treat!

Last week I decided to indulge in Cold Stone Creamery's yummy cupcakes they've been advertising. They were fabulous!! T and I had the Sweet Cream variety and it had a layer of yellow cake topped with fudge, sweet cream ice cream and vanilla frosting all snug in a chocolate cup. They are here for a limited time only so run out and pick up a pack. They come six to a pack for $9.99. The other flavors look very delicious as well. As for this weekend, it's been very low-key. I'm looking forward to the week ahead with my first JL provisional meeting and a fun dance practice. One of the dances we are working on is to "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast that we will be performing at a banquet. More on this later! I hope you're all enjoying your Sunday!

Photo Tag

Preppy 101 has tagged me with the photo tag. How fun!

Rules: Go to the sixth folder. Choose the sixth picture. Tag six bloggers.

Here is my sister, our two family friends and me with Snow White at Disney World, summer 2007. My mom, sister, mom's friend and her two little precious girls came down for a girl's weekend to go to Disney. We had a blast! We wore coordinating outfits and it was too fun. This day we wore light pink shirts with chocolate brown shorts and chocolate and pink ribbon belts. Another day we wore black tops with khaki shorts and pink princess ribbon tied around our waists. We got lots of compliments and it was so fun being princesses for a day. This has become a tradition and I look forward to them coming down for a Disney girl's weekend each summer.

I tag:

Preppy 101 has also given me the Friendship Award. Thank you so much, this means a lot to me! You are too sweet and I love how you always take the time to comment and find out how everyone's doing. I pass this on to all of you fabulous bloggers out there!

Happy Friday to all, have a wonderful weekend!!

Candy Hearts

I love all the heart-themed items that come out around Valentine's Day, as well as all the pink and red! A heart is also one of my sorority's symbols so that makes it extra fun to check out all the happy heart products. Here are a few yummy, pretty treats I've discovered:

Message Cookies, Crate and Barrel (set of nine)
Heart-shaped chocolate butter cookies decorated in fun colors and stamped with sayings such as "Kiss Me," "Love," "Cute," and "Flirt." These look delicious and so adorable!

Candy Hearts Lip Duo, Philosophy (exclusively for Sephora)
Two flavors, Pink Bubbly and Angel Food Cake. The packaging is too precious!

Heart-shaped Candy Dishes, Swoozie's
Perfect for holding candy hearts or your favorite Valentine's treats.

*Happy Wednesday to all! We are halfway to the weekend, hooray. Tonight I have my first dance practice since before Christmas, so I am excited to get dancin' again. Enjoy your afternoon/evening!

20 Questions

The always delightful Preppy 101 has tagged me with the questions game, so here goes!

Step 1:  Respond and Rework.
Answer the questions on your own blog. Replace one question that you don't like with a question of your own invention.  Then add one more question of your own invention.

1.  Make a list of things you can see without getting up.
Work phone, calendar, bottle of water, my pink phone, cute stationery and an Elon flag pennant I've pinned up on my cubicle wall, past magazine issues.

2.  Favorite Football Team.
My family cheers for Georgia Tech and Alabama. So I guess I do too!

3.  What are you wearing now?
Dark gray sleeveless turtleneck sweater dress with a fuchsia long-sleeve shirt underneath, black ankle-length tights and black Revas.

4.  What's the last thing you read/are currently reading?
The Chocolate Lovers' Club. I'm headed to the library tonight in search of another good read.

5.  Who was the last person you hugged?
Ty after he dropped me off at my apartment last night after the Magic game.

6.  What's you current obsession/addiction?
Right now I am addicted to watching the Bachelor, redecorating my room and baking.

7.  What was the last thing you said aloud?
To my boss: Robin said to call her about verifying when the printer mailed the magazines.

8.  What was the last thing you bought?
Pizza at the basketball game last night.

9.  What are you listening to right now?
Taylor Swift.

10.  What is your favorite weather and why?
I love spring weather when it's not too hot, and not too cold, so I can wear sundresses all the time.

11.  What is your most challenging goal right now?
Balancing all important aspects of my life. Work, dance troupe, Junior League, boyfriend, friends/family etc.

12.  Say something to the person who tagged you.
Preppy 101 is extremely kind and charming. I love catching up on what she's up to, how her family is doing and the creative projects she has going on. Her comments always make my day!

13.  If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished, anywhere in the world, where would it be?
At the beach!

14.  Favorite vacation spot?
Sandestin (Florida)!! I grew up going to this resort and have seen it change over the years to the wonderful relaxation spot it is now. I love everything about it from the white sand beaches to the village with the great restaurants and shops.

15.  Favorite children's book?
Angelina Ballerina, of course. I also love the Madeline books and Fancy Nancy.

16.  Name one thing you just can't resist no matter how bad it is for you?
Sweets of all kinds! Cupcakes and cookies and brownies and candy. Yum yum.

18.  What was the first tape or CD that you bought for yourself?
Spice Girls maybe? I'm not sure!

19.  Describe your perfect day.
I would wake up to sunshine and head down to the beach where I would read a fabulous book and enjoy the ocean. Then out to lunch and a little shopping would be next on the list, followed by more beach time, a delicious dinner and then a movie or some other fun activity. All with my favorite people!

20.  Favorite accessory?
Headbands, for sure. I love how they can tie an outfit together.

Thanks for playing, I tag anyone else who wants to participate!

I heart golf

Last week I was lucky enough to spend a few days at the PGA Show. It is a merchandise show where they unveil the latest clubs, golf fashion, accessories and pretty much everything you can  think of. People from all over the country (and world) come to the show and this year there were over 1,ooo booths. The numbers are down a little bit from last year. The people who come to check out the latest and greatest in golf are mostly pros, buyers for golf shops, golf course managers and staff, and media. My assignment was to put together a gift guide, so you know I had a blast shopping around. My boss wanted me to only use companies that were from a certain state, so although I was rather limited, I still found some things that would work and had time to browse through all the fun, cutesy stuff that I love. I sneakily took some pictures so here are some fun and preppy booths I found to share with all of you!

Lilly Jeep

More Lilly! Check out the cute golf bag.

Lots of madras.

Cute golf accessories.

A fabulous stationery company, bloom.

Paula Creamer, aka "The Pink Panther"
Paula is my favorite LPGA player. She is known for her love of pink!! She plays with a pink ball and the grips on her clubs are pink. (Sorry for the terrible picture, there was a huge crowd and I couldn't get a good shot.)

Last night my boyfriend and I, his brother and some friends all got together to celebrate the Super Bowl. What an exciting fourth quarter! I cheered for both teams since I didn't have a favorite. The boys put together a football pool grid where you write your initials on a square and it's $1 per square. (I'm not sure what it's called.) Then numbers are assigned at random across the top line (Steelers) and side line (Arizona) of the squares. At the end of each quarter whatever the score was you would use those numbers on the grid to see which square would win the money for that quarter. Well, I have one lucky boyfriend who won all of them and even let me persuade him to give me back the money I entered. What a sweet boyfriend to share his winnings!
Ty and I were in charge of the food so we made mini hamburger sliders, a queso dip and guacamole. For dessert I made mini chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese icing and crumbled oreos on top. Very yummy and the boys gobbled them up. It is back to the grind today, but I'm looking forward to going to an Orlando Magic basketball game tonight!
