Tomorrow I will be on my way to Traverse City, Michigan, where my boyfriend is from, to visit with his family. T's brother and his brother's girlfriend are coming with us as well. It is so peaceful and beautiful in Traverse City and I can't wait for the cooler weather.
After spending a couple days in Traverse City we are heading to Mackinac Island. I have never been, but heard it's fabulous summer place. I am very excited! We are staying at the Grand Hotel (pictured above) and their motto is, fittingly — America's Summer Place. It has a rich and storied history and is said to be one of the nation's favorite summer resorts during the Victorian area.
- It opened in 1887.
- It has the largest front porch in the world.
- Five presidents have visited - Bush, Clinton, Ford, Truman and Kennedy
- Geraniums are the trademark flower
- Six rooms are named after former First Ladies - Lady Bird Johnson, Betty Ford, Jacqueline Kennedy, Rosalynn Carter, Nancy Reagan, and Barbara Bush
There are lots of fun things to do at the Grand Hotel like a big lawn for croquet and bocce ball, a heated pool, tennis, golf, cycling and horseback riding and afternoon tea. There is also a dress code. At 6 p.m., gentlemen must be in coat and tie and ladies in dresses. There also are no cars allowed on the island. The modes of transportation are bicycles or horse and carriage. I'm feeling relaxed already! The restaurants sound great as well. We're going to one called Woods and it is actually in the woods. You have to take a horse and carriage to get there.
I'm packing my most summery things and my favorite Lilly dresses. The island and resort sound so charming and full of history. My boyfriend's parents are so sweet to take us all there. I will take plenty of pictures to share when I return. Until then, I have some scheduled posts.
Have a wonderful weekend!
