Christmas cupcakes

Below is my entry in my work's bake-off competition. I made red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing along with homemade chocolate cake truffles on the side. There were nine entries and we were judged on presentation, holiday theme and taste. Sadly I didn't place. I was very disappointed. Mine was the only one with a holiday theme and the best presented. They were really yummy too! First place went to a banana split pie that had a graham cracker crust with vanilla pudding, strawberries, bananas, and whip cream and nuts. There's no baking involved in that and it was pretty sloppy. Second place went to a flourless chocolate cake with kahlua, and it was good but nothing special. Third place went to a cake baked by a coworkers's wife, which I don't think that should count. It was chocolate cake with banana and rum. None of these had a holiday theme. I guess not everyone has a love of cupcakes like we do. So, I am very disappointed because I spent quite a bit of effort on these and many many hours in the kitchen. Oh well, at least I have perfected my cupcake baking! The funny thing is, my coworkers ate up my cupcakes after the judging was over and not many people touched the winning entries. I wish I could share these yummy cupcakes with all of you!!!

How cute! I love red velvet, and they should have seen the time you put into making them look so cute and Christmasy!

They should have had a category for best decorations. Yours would win for sure!
